Industrial Rail Tank Cars
Series 6000 Tank Cars
The industrial Rail series 6000 tank cars design is based on cars that operated in the early to mid 1900s. Their design closely matches the ACF Type 27 cars. Because of their fragility, it is common to find series 6000 cars with broken brake wheels and hand rails.
Tank Cars
Tank Cars are designed to carry liquid and compressed gas products. Their large steel tank is mounted on either a steel underframe or cradles resting on the truck bolsters. On top of the tank is a dome, which allows for the expansion of the liquid cargo. The domes conceal openings that allow the tank to be filled as well as valves that allow internal air pressure to be released. Discharge of the car's contents is usually through pipes or hoses fitted at the bottom of the car.
